The School of Continuing and Professional Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUSCS) is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year, representing six decades of unwavering dedication to lifelong learning, professional development, and academic excellence. On behalf of the University, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to CUSCS on this significant milestone.

Since the University established the Department of Extramural Studies (now CUSCS) in 1965, the School has been a pioneer in providing quality continuing education to address the diverse and evolving needs of our society. Over the years, CUSCS has transformed into a vibrant educational hub, offering a wide variety of award-bearing programmes and general courses designed for working adults and senior learners to enhance their skills, explore new career paths, and enrich their lives, alongside full-time Higher Diploma and Diploma programmes for young adults to further their studies and develop their careers.

In the days to come, I am confident that CUSCS, with the continued support of the University, will embrace new challenges and seize emerging opportunities. Let us celebrate this remarkable journey together and look forward to another 60 years of excellence in serving our community and empowering individuals through lifelong learning.

Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, SBS, JP
Vice-Chancellor and President, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine

My warmest congratulations to School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS) on the joyous occasion of its 60th Anniversary. As a member of the Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies for several years and having taken on the role of Chairperson in 2017, I have witnessed the dedication of the CUSCS staff in their pursuit of excellence. Their efforts have led to remarkable growth and significant achievements for the School.

In this rapidly evolving era, the School has proactively adapted to changes and challenges by continuously reviewing and refining its curriculum, developing new virtual reality tools to prepare students for internships, and embracing online teaching and learning strategies to effectively address the limitations of face-to-face classes during challenging times. These initiatives demonstrate the School’s flexibility and forward-thinking vision, which have been essential to its enduring success.

I am deeply honored to partner with CUSCS to contribute to lifelong education. I wish CUSCS continued success in nurturing talents for our community, and may the School scale even greater heights in the years to come!

Chairperson, Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies

Over the past six decades, the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS) has been at the forefront of delivering quality continuing and professional education, adapting to our society's dynamic needs. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all CUSCS members. Your dedication to quality enhancement and academic excellence has been instrumental in our success.

All award-bearing programmes at CUSCS have undergone a rigorous vetting process to ensure that they meet the stringent academic standards of the University. This process includes thorough consultations with relevant academic faculties, comprehensive evaluations by the Senate Committee on Sub-degree, Professional and Continuing Education Programmes (SPCEP), and final approval by the Senate of CUHK.

The programmes of CUSCS are meticulously designed to align with contemporary learning needs, ensuring that the curriculum remains relevant and effective in empowering learners to enhance their skills and knowledge across diverse disciplines.

As CUSCS embarks on the next chapter, I wish the School continued success in the years to come.

The year 2025 marks a significant milestone of the diamond jubilee of CUSCS. In Chinese culture, there is a traditional belief that 60 years constitute a complete cycle of maturity and continuity. As we celebrate our key achievements of the past 60 years, we embrace a new cycle filled with challenges. This reminds us at CUSCS that we must equip ourselves to seize the emerging opportunities in the midst of the ever-changing environment, which aligns perfectly with the profound significance of the theme of our 60th Anniversary, "Advance with Legacy for Lifelong Company".

In response to the global trends and societal demands, CUSCS acts promptly to cater to the learning needs and interests of our students. We strive to expand our offerings to cover a broader spectrum of study, including the topical areas of Career Development, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Generative Artificial Intelligence, Gerontechnology and Positive Ageing Planning, and Holistic Wellbeing. We aspire to support and accompany adult learners in enriching their lives at various life stages by leveraging innovative content and study modes. We also offer a series of programmes leading to qualification framework levels and professional accreditation, which further enable learners in enhancing their academic and professional qualifications for more prosperous career development.

Regarding the positioning of Higher Diplomas as a main pillar of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) set by the Government, the School continues to conduct comprehensive reviews of the scope and content of our full-time programmes, in order to better bridge education with employment and nurture the young generation to become the relevant talents that address the needs for the betterment of society.

The 60 years of achievement is undoubtedly the result of the tireless efforts of our pioneers and staff.  Without this solid foundation, it would not be possible for us to uphold our mission of serving the community at large. I sincerely invite you to take an active part in our celebratory activities during the 60th Anniversary and let CUSCS continue to be your partner in lifelong learning.

Anniversary Logo

The 60th Anniversary logo creatively merges the number ‘60’ with a dynamic figure in motion, symbolising the continuing education journey at CUSCS. The person’s posture embodies progress and advancement in both study life and career development, while the flowing lines subtly evoke the infinity symbol – signifying the continuous growth of CUSCS and the boundless opportunities it brings to the lifelong learners.

The School organised the "60th Anniversary Logo and Slogan Design Competition" earlier to call for creative ideas from its students, alumni and staff, as well as members of the public. The winning entry is designed by Dr. Ser Shaw Hong.
