Admission Requirement

1. Have Level 2 in five subjects in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination including Chinese Language and English Language, or equivalent; or
2. Have passed in one A Level or two AS Level plus five passes in HKCEE including Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language, or equivalent; or
3. be aged 21 or above

Programme Objectives and Targets

Programme Objectives
This is a programme designed and offered in collaboration with the Jockey Club “age at home” Gerontech Education and Rental Service Centre under the care of Hong Kong Red Cross. The programme is designed to delve deep into the realm of gerontechnology, aiming to enhance the health and well-being of the ageing population in Hong Kong by providing training in gerontechnology applications and smart ageing-in-place strategies, leveraging the expertise of the Jockey Club "age at home" Gerontech Education and Rental Service Centre.

Programme Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this programme, graduates will have acquired the ability to:
(1) Integrate technology with biological and psychological factors for health monitoring and caregiving solutions, incorporating an understanding of elderly acceptance of and feedback on gerontechnology to ensure solutions are effectively embraced;
(2) Screen and operate various technology tools in caring, health monitoring, and rehabilitation aspect;
(3) Demonstrate discretion, creativity, and ethical responsibility in searching for and integrating adaptable gerontechnology;
(4) Guide caregivers in adopting gerontechnology tools effectively and analyze gerontechnology market trends to keep up with evolving developments and needs.

Programme Structure and Modules

This programme consists of 3 modules with 90 contact hours.

Module 1 (30 hours)
Gerontechnology for Caring
This module aims to provide participants with an overview of Gerontechnology and its application so that they can apply Gerontechnology in the ageing challenges to achieve smart-ageing.

Module 2 (30 hours)
Technology Applications for Health Monitoring
This module aims to enable students to understand the symbiotic relationship between Gerontology and Technology. It also covers the psychological challenges of technological interventions, applications of telemedicine and ethical considerations in Gerontechnology and smart-ageing in order to enable participants to explore, and discuss health monitoring technologies.

Module 3 (30 hours)
Market for Gerontechnology
This module aims to provide participants with an overview of the Gerontechnology market as well as its future trends and market opportunities in smart-ageing, the innovative technologies and their applications in elder care and the different professional roles involved in the process.

Field Trips: Saturday Morning or Afternoon

Module 1: July - August 2025, 10 sessions (lectures and 3 field trips in August 2025, Saturday 10:00-13:00)
Module 2: September - November 2025, 10 sessions (lectures only)
Module 3: December 2025 - February 2026, 10 sessions (lectures and 2 field trips in January 2026, Saturday AM or PM)

Normal and Maximum Study Period

Normal Study Period: about 12 months
Maximum Study Period: to be awarded the certificate, students must complete the programme within 36 months

Assessment Methods

Final exam, Assignment, Case studies, Class participation, Presentation and Project

Award of Certificate

a) Have an attendance rate of 70% or above in each module; and
b) Have passed the assessment of each module.
Students must complete the programme within the maximum study period (3 years).

** Registered nurses and enrolled nurses under the Nursing Council of Hong Kong will receive Continuing Nursing Education points (CNE points) after completing this programme.
