Introduction

This Programme aims to:
(1) provide participants with knowledge of eco-cultural tourism;
(2) offer participants with guide training in wilderness hiking;
(3) assist participants to plan routes in eco-cultural tourism.

Programme Structure and Duration

There are 3 modules with a total of 90 contact hours which can be completed in about 12 months by part-time study mode.

Module 1: Wilderness Hiking Guide Training (30 hours)
Module 2: The Environment and Ecotourism in Hong Kong (30 hours)
Module 3: Visits to Historical and Cultural Monuments (30 hours)

Module 1: Wilderness Hiking Guide Training

This module aims to provide participants with the knowledge of wilderness experiences and a training in becoming a wilderness hiking guide. It is intended that they can develop the competency in guiding and planning local wilderness trips.

Module 2: The Environment and Ecotourism in Hong Kong

This module aims to explore the natural eco environment of Hong Kong, focusing on its unique natural resources and ecosystems. The emphasis will be placed on the role of environmental education in enhancing the sustainable development of eco-tourism. Participants will also be provided with the training in developing the skills of guiding and planning local eco tours.

Module 3 : Visits to Historical and Cultural Monuments

Hong Kong has been a major entrepot in South China and therefore hosting varieties of historical buildings. Among them, some are ruins with archaeological value while others are monuments with historical value. This module aims to assist participants to understand the social development in Hong Kong through recognizing the different types of monuments. Participants will also be provided with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills in guiding at monuments, and enhance their training in historical and cultural observation so as to achieve a better understanding of Hong Kong history.

Attendance

A minimum of 70% attendance in each module, including practicum, is required.

Award of Certificate

Participants will be awarded the “Certificate in Eco-cultural Tourism” upon fulfilling the following requirements:
1. Have an attendance rate of 70% or above in each course; and
2. Have passed the assessment of each course.

Subject to the decision of a selection committee, the School reserves the right to make alterations regardsing the instructor, time, place and content of courses offered when necessary.
