  1. 兼讀制課程  - 面授課堂由2020年5月11日起分階段恢復,並預期於5月底全面復課。學院將個別通知同學有關詳情。為保障同學及教職員健康,進入教學中心時須遵守以下衛生措施:佩戴口罩、量度體溫、使用消毒搓手液,以及填寫健康申報表。

Co-orgranization

This programme is co-orgranized with Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Introduction

The course aims to provide both the theoretical and practical knowledge related to cardiovascular perfusion technology to cardiac nurses, intensive care unit nurses and perfusionists who are involved in cardiac patient care.

Objective

Upon completion of the programme, the students should be able to:
1. integrate the theoretical knowledge on basic anatomy and physiology of cardiology, the mechanical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of cardiopulmonary bypass;
2. describe common cardiac diseases, medical, as well as surgical investigations and interventions;
3. set up a cardiopulmonary bypass circuit and perform cardiopulmonary bypass safely under close supervision in simulated environment; and
4. demonstrate critical thinking in the management of cardiopulmonary bypass.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of face-to-face lectures and a practicum, totalling 246 hours (including examinations):
1. Fundamentals in Clinical Management for Heart and Lung Diseases (95 hours)
2. Perfusion Technology in Cardiopulmonary Bypass and Mechanical Assist Devices (87 hours)
3. Practicum* (64 hours)

Some lectures may be combined with classes of other nursing programmes.
*Practicum:8 practical sessions (to be arranged during office hours on weekdays).

Programme Requirements

To qualify for the award of the 'Professional Diploma in Perfusion Science and Technology', students are required to:
1. have an attendance rate of 70% or above for lectures;
2. have an attendance rate of 100% for practicum; and
3. pass assessments in each module.

There will be written examination at the end of lectures. For the practicum, students are required to complete a log book and an oral assessment will be also arranged at the end of practicum.

CNE points will be offered.

Duration

The whole programme, including lectures and practicum, will normally last for 12 to 18 months.

Medium of Instruction

Both English and Cantonese will be used as the medium of instruction. All assessments will be conducted in English.
