Getting Started Guide For New Students of Higher Diploma Programme
Your Student Accounts
Each full-time student will be assigned with different sets of computer accounts. Below please find the summary of each account type.

All the user accounts will normally be expired and terminated when you completed your study in SCS as a student. All data files, including email messages, will be deleted. It is users' responsibilities to backup their own data prior to the termination of their accounts.
Using Your SCS Email
You can login your SCS email at the SCS Webmail. For guidelines using your SCS Webmail and email account management information, please read the User Guide of SCS Webmail. Aside from using the SCS Webmail, you can also set up your SCS email account with an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Mozilla Thunderbird. For detailed procedures, please refer to the Email Services page.
If you want to receive the SCS email messages with your personal email account, you can set up email auto-forwarding in SCS Webmail. For detailed procedures, please refer to the User Guide of SCS Webmail.
Changing Your Passwords
You are recommended to change your passwords of different accounts when you start using them. Below please find the instructions of how to change your passwords:
1. Change password for SCS Email Account:

2. Change password for Network Login Account:
a. Login to any desktop computer at the learning centre.
b. Press CTRL + ATL + DELETE keys altogether on the keyboard.
c. Click the Change Password ( ) button.
d. Enter your Old Password and New Password (twice) and click OK.
e. Your password is changed.
Using Computers in Computer Laboratories
Computer laboratories are located in different learning centres at Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Mong Kok. There are two types of computer labs, one is open for scheduled class only and the other is open for student practice (free lab). Students can use the computing resources at any free lab according to opening hours. The opening time and exact locations of the free labs can be checked in the below website:

Printing Services
Laser printers are located at different locations of our learning centres. Regular full-time students are entitled to a print quota of HK$60 every academic year. Students can log in to one of the networked computers in the learning centre and select the appropriate printer to print. Students can purchase extra printing credit by making deposit to their user accounts at the counter of each centre. The charge for each page in black and white is $0.3. We also provide colour laser printing services at some locations, the charge for each page in colour is $2.0.
University Library System (ULS) of CUHK
Full time students are eligible to use the Library services provided by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Each student will receive a CUHK library card when he/she is admitted to SCS. The borrowing privileges for each student is 5 volumes for 14 days and the scope of services is published in the below website:

Online Learning
As a student, you can check with your instructor and find out whether your course has been created in our online learning platform. If so, you will be assigned with a user account and password for the access of the system.
The online learning platform we are using in SCS is called Moodle, which is an open source eLearning platform to facilitate different teaching and learning needs. It is designed to assist instructors create online courses with opportunities for rich interaction with the students. Some of the useful features include:
1. List out teaching materials and class activities online in topic or weekly format.
2. Extend to discuss with students outside classroom via Internet.
3. Receive assignments online with deadlines.
4. Provide online exercises to students.
