INTRODUCTION
THE DIPLOMA IN LIBRARY STUDIES is a specialized programme for people interested in upgrading and updating their knowledge and skills in library organization and management, information sources and services, organization of information, and services to specific clientele.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this Diploma Programme, participants will be able to:
¡]a¡^identify the elements for effective management of library services and organizations;
¡]b¡^analyze types of information needs in order to identify proper approaches and strategies for searching out information.
¡]c¡^develop competence in designing, maintaining and evaluating electronic systems operated in library and information centres;
¡]d¡^apply methods for organizing and representing information and knowledge resources.

DURATION
The Programme consists of 150 contact hours and can be completed in 15 months. The current five modules are listed as follows:

Participants in this Programme will also be required to complete an one-week practicum placement in a library or other appropriate library setting.

Aim:
¡]1¡^To illustrate a supervisor's role such as: strategic planning, evaluation of systems and projects, budgeting, proposal writing, and marketing within the background of information services and organization.
¡]2¡^To pinpoint innate competencies, strengths and weaknesses of a supervisor, and explore personal potentials for
leadership in an information age.

¡]2¡^To explore the major steps, methods and techniques for developing an electronic system for a library.

ASSESSMENT METHODS
A participant's performance is monitored and assessed on a continuous basis through a variety of assessment methods, such as projects, participation in class and practicum sessions, assignments and final examination.

AWARD OF DIPLOMA
To qualify for the award of the Diploma in Library Studies by CUHK, a participant must:
¡]a¡^have an attendance rate of at least 80% in each module and the Practicum; and
¡]b¡^have passed the assessment of each Module and the Practicum.

ACCEPTANCE
Subject to the decision of a selection committee. (ENROLMENT LIMITED)

ATTENDANCE
A minimum of 80% of attendance in each topic is required.

ALTERNATIONS
SCS reserves the right to make alternations regarding the instructor, time, place and contents of courses offered when necessary. The School also reserves the right to cancel a course if there is insufficient enrolment.

A completed application form together with photocopies of educational certificate /testimonials* , supporting documents, if any, plus an application fee of HK$100 and a **tuition fee of HK$16,500, in two separate crossed cheques or bank drafts, payable to "The Chinese University of Hong Kong", should be sent to:

Admission Requirements
Applicants seeking for admission to the Programme should have successfully completed the "Certificate Programme for Library Assistants"organized by SCS, CUHK or equivalent.
