Programme Objectives
The health products industry is a booming industry due to the increase in health awareness of the general population. The number of health products available is immense: different brands with the same function; different products with the same function. With so many choices, it takes more than a discerning eye to make the right choice.
The health products covered in this programme will include Chinese proprietary medicine, over-the-counter pharmaceutical products categorized as Part II Poison and Non-poison, natural health products and nutritional products. These are products that consumers can easily obtain from the shelf.
| The objectives are to train those working in the health products industry. The programme is aimed at: |
|
equipping students with basic knowledge of nutrition and science that will enable them to develop careers in the health products industry or to pursue further education; |
|
enhancing students' skills in making sales to retailers and consumers respectively; |
|
developing students' knowledge of marketing to different sectors; |
|
enabling students to understand the management of a health products company; |
|
equipping students with ethics in business dealings; and |
|
encouraging students to take a role in health promotion. |

Programme Structure
The programme will be offered on a full-time basis. The normal duration of study for full-time students will be three years for Form 5 or equivalent entrants, and two years for Form 7 or equivalent entrants.
The 3-year programme
The 3-year Higher Diploma Programme consists of 31 modules with 1,350 contact hours of instruction. It will be completed in 3 years of full-time study.
The 2-year programme
The 2-year Higher Diploma Programme consists of 24 modules with 1,035 contact hours of instruction. It will be completed in 2 years of full-time study.

Minimum Admission Requirements
The 3-year Programme
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
five passes which include Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKCEE, or completion of Project Yi Jin, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)
The 2-year Programme
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, or completion of a Pre-Associate Degree programme, plus the minimum admission requirement of the 3-year programme, or equivalent qualification;
or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

General Information
Mode of Delivery
The programme will mainly be conducted in form of lectures and tutorials. A variety of learning formats such as group discussions, presentations and projects will be used to facilitate the students' learning.
Medium of Instruction
Lessons will be conducted in English, Cantonese and Putonghua as deemed appropriate. Learning materials will be in English and Chinese as deemed appropriate.
Assessment Methods
Assignments, mid-terms and final examinations are the forms of assessment in each module.
Award
Students completing the Higher Diploma Programme in Health Products Management and fulfilling the following criteria are eligible for the award:
Attain an attendance of 70% or above for each module;
Pass the assessment of each module with a score of 50% or above.
Venue
All lecture sessions will be conducted at SCS's town learning centres.
