Programme Objectives

The overall objective of the progrmame is to provide students with the academic, technical and management skills that will enable them to pursue careers in human services.

To facilitate students to understand key theoretical and practical issues in human services;
To assist students to develop helping skills required in those social services at individual, group, organisational and community level; and
To prepare students for careers in social organisations as human service workers.

Programme Structure

The 3-year programme
The programme consists of 27 modules with 1,350 contact hours of instruction. It will be completed in 3 years of full-time study. There are 8-10 modules to be completed each year.

The 2-year programme
The programme consists of 20 modules with 1,050 contact hours of instruction. It will be completed in 2 years of full-time study. There are 10 modules to be completed each year.

For both programmes, there are two Human Service Streams within the programme: A. Working with Individuals and Families and B. Working with Organisations. Students will receive training in one of these two specialisation streams. The offer of Streams will be subject to the decision of the School.

Articulation to Degree Programme

The School is actively exploring the articulation arrangements with overseas institutions for graduates of this Programme to articulate to their Bachelor's degree programmes in related disciplines.

Minimum Admission Requirements

The 3-year programme
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
five passes which include Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKCEE, or completion of Project Yi Jin, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

The 2-year programme
Applicants should fulfill either one of the followings:
pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, or completion of a Pre-Associate Degree programme, plus the minimum admission requirement of the 3-year programme, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

General Information

Mode of Delivery
Classes will be conducted in the form of lectures, tutorials and seminars. A final year practicum is a core element of the programme and is required of each student.

Medium of Instruction
Teaching activities will be conducted in English, Cantonese and Putonghua as deemed appropriate. Learning materials will be in English and Chinese as deemed appropriate.
