Programme Objectives

To maintain Hong Kong's competitiveness in the knowledge-based and increasingly globalized economy in which the enrichment of knowledge and skills in accounting and finance is vital, our School addresses these issues by developing Higher Diploma Programme in professional accounting to enable secondary school graduates to pursue high quality accounting education in Hong Kong.

The programme objectives are:

To equip students with professional accounting knowledge and skills for seeking a career in accounting and pursuing further studies;
To develop students' ability of defining, analyzing and solving problems with a view to gain skills for the challenges of being a professional accountant in future; and
To acquire a good understanding of information technology and systems and their application on the work of a professional accountant.

Programme Structure

This programme will be offered on a full-time basis. The normal duration of study will be three years for Form 5 or equivalent entrants, and two years for Form 7 or equivalent entrants.

There are two streams within the programme: Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Students will select one of these two functional streams in their final year of study.

The 3-year programme
The 3-year programme consists of 29 modules with 1,350 hours of instruction. There are approximately 9-10 modules to be completed each year.

The 2-year programme
The 2-year programme consists of 22 modules with 1,035 hours of instruction. There are 10 or 12 modules to be completed each year.

Articulation to Degree Programme

The School is actively exploring the articulation arrangements with overseas institutions for graduates of this Programme to articulate to their Bachelor's degree programmes in related disciplines.

Minimum Admission Requirements

The 3-year programme
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
five passes which include Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKCEE, or completion of Project Yi Jin, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

The 2-year programme :
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, or completion of a Pre-Associate Degree programme, plus the minimum admission requirement of the 3-year programme, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

Professional Accreditation

Graduates are eligible for partial exemptions* from the professional examinations of the following professional bodies:

* The Association of International Accountants (AIA)

* The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

*The specialization stream selected by students in their studies determines the number of exemptions to be granted.

General Information

Mode of Delivery
The programme will mainly be conducted in form of lectures and tutorials. A variety of learning formats will be used to facilitate the interactive dynamics of students, to stimulate their analytical thinking and to encourage the free exchange of ideas. These include group discussions, presentations, and case studies.

Medium of Instruction
Teaching activities will be conducted in English, Cantonese and Putonghua as deemed appropriate. Learning materials will be in English and Chinese as deemed appropriate.

Assessment Methods
Performance of students is monitored and assessed on a continuous basis through a variety of methods, such as assignments, class participation, projects, and final examinations.
