Programme Objectives

The overall aim of the programme is to provide students with the academic, technical and management skills that will enable them to pursue careers in the financial services industry.

Specific objectives of this programme are as follows:

To provide students a good appreciation of the financial services industry operating framework;
To provide students with specialised studies directly relevant to the licensing and professional requirements for practising in financial services;
To prepare students for various licensing examinations after graduation and upon gaining some practical experience in the industry.

Programme Structure

This programme will be offered on a full-time basis. The normal duration of study will be three years for Form 5 or equivalent entrants, and two year for Form 7 or equivalent entrants.

The 3-year programme
The 3-year higher diploma programme consists of 29 modules with 1,350 hours of instruction. There are approximately 10 modules to be completed each year.

The 2-year programme
The 2-year higher diploma programme consists of 21 modules with 990 hours of instruction. There are 10 or 11 modules to be completed each year.

Minimum Admission Requirements

The 3-year programme
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
five passes which include Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKCEE, or completion of Project Yi Jin, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

The 2-year programme :
Applicant should fulfill either one of the following:
pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, or completion of a Pre-Associate Degree programme, plus the minimum admission requirement of the 3-year programme, or equivalent qualification; or
be mature students at the age of 21 or above. (Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to pursue the programme, and attend an interview.)

Professional Accreditation

Graduates are eligible for partial exemptions from:

the professional examinations of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB)
the modules of the Registered CFPCM Certification Education Program offered by the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK)

General Information

Mode of Delivery
The programme will mainly be conducted in form of lectures and tutorials. A variety of learning formats will be used to facilitate the interactive dynamics of students, to stimulate their analytical thinking and to encourage the free exchange of ideas. These include group discussions, presentations, and case studies.

Medium of Instruction
Teaching activities will be conducted in English, Cantonese and Putonghua as deemed appropriate. Learning materials will be in English and Chinese as deemed appropriate.

Assessment Methods
Performance of students is monitored and assessed on a continuous basis through a variety of methods, such as assignments, class participation, projects, and final examinations.
