Programme Objectives
In today's competitive visual era, investment in visual design has become an essential factor for success of business organization. With a long tradition of Chinese culture and openness towards cultural diversity, Hong Kong has an advantage in the development of creative industries. To maintain Hong Kong's competitive edge, our School has designed the Higher Diploma Programme in Commercial Design. In the programme, which encompasses all areas involved in commercial design and covers both professional knowledge and technical skills, students would begin with basic training before proceeding to advanced and professional education. With the knowledge and skills gained from their study, our students would take up a leading role in the future creative industries.
The objectives of the programme are:

Enable students to develop approaches to analyzing and solving problems independently; |

Develop students' ability to communicate with greater proficiency. |

Programme Structure
The programme will be offered on a full-time basis. The normal duration of study for full-time
students will be three years for Form 5 or equivalent entrants, and two years for Form 7 or equivalent entrants. Full-time students will normally attend classes in the mornings and / or afternoons on weekdays. Some modules may be offered on Saturdays or weekday evenings.
There are nine areas of modules, namely Language (for 3-year full-time programme only), Fine Arts, Graphic & Communication Design, Art Education & Communication, Computer Multimedia Arts, Photography, Applied Arts, Video Production, and Portfolio. The programme covers all areas involved in commercial design, including both knowledge and technical skills. Students begin with basic training and then proceed to advanced and professional education.
The 3-year programme
The three-year programme consists of 38 modules of 1350 contact hours in total (90 credit units).
The 2-year programme
The two-year programme consists of 28 modules of 1080 contact hours in total (72 credit units).

Minimum Admission Requirements
The 3-year programme
Applicant should fulfill the following:
five passes which include Level 2 / Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKCEE, or completion of Project Yi Jin, or equivalent qualification.
The 2-year programme
Applicant should fulfill the following:
pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, or completion of a Pre-Associate Degree programme, plus the minimum admission requirement of the 3-year programme, or equivalent qualification.
Mature applicants at the age of 21 or above who do not meet the minimum admission requirements specified above but possess demonstrated abilities to pursue the programme are eligible to apply for admission.
Each applicant is required to submit a portfolio (if any) and attend an interview. Acceptance will be subject to the decision of the selection committee.

General Information
Mode of Delivery
The Programme will be delivered mainly by face-to-face instruction. A variety of learning formats will also be used to stimulate dynamic interaction between students.
Medium of Instruction
Teaching activities will be conducted in English, Cantonese and Putonghua as deemed appropriate. Learning materials will be in English and Chinese as deemed appropriate.
Assessment Methods
Performance of students is monitored and assessed on a continuous basis using a variety of assessment tools, such as projects, classroom participation, assignments and final examination.
Award of Diploma
To qualify for the award of Higher Diploma at the School of Continuing Studies, a student must:
have completed the required modules and have passed the assessment;
and have an attendance rate of at least 70% for each module.
