The application of computer game technologies is generating a significant demand in the education of computer game related technologies. Currently, game design and development classes can be found at overseas universities, such as Brown, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, California and many others, as well as local universities, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The game industry is one of the most exciting and fastest-growing sectors in the digital content industry. Recent figures show that the game industry has generated a revenue of US$18 billion in interactive entertainment software sales worldwide in 2004, and the figure is expected to increase to US$26 billion in 2008. The industry will be growing even faster over the next couple of years due to the huge demand of the rapidly expanding population of game players in China; it is estimated that the number of mobile gamers in China will exceed 55 million by 2009. To address this rapid growth and corresponding needs for professional computer game developers, SCS offers the Higher Diploma (HD) Programme in Computer Game Development, which provides students practical and thorough knowledge in computer game design and development.

The objectives of this programme are:

To equip students with an in-depth and well-balanced knowledge of fundamental computing;
To provide students with sound knowledge of game development with a good understanding of both theoretical and practical implementation aspects; AND
To prepare students for careers and further studies in computing, particularly in game development and development.
