In view of the stabilizing COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong, the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS) makes the following announcement: 

  1. Part-time Continuing Education Programmes - Face-to-face class delivery will be resumed by phases from 11 May 2020 with the aim to resume all classes by the end of May.  Students will be contacted individually for details. For protection of health of students and staff, users of Learning Centres are required to observe sanitary measures when entering the Centres: wear a face mask, perform temperature screening, use hand sanitizer, and submit a Health Declaration Form.
  2. Higher Diploma & Diploma in Foundation Studies Programmes - All classes will continue to be conducted online until Semester 2 ends on 26 May 2020.

  3. Learning Centres - All services and opening hours of CUSCS Learning Centres will resume to normal from 11 May 2020.  Please check here for details.

Today's business and non-profit organisations need to capitalise on the tremendous progress that will be achieved via business excellence practices with integrated management systems, such as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA). This Award has been emulated by many countries and has been internationally recognised as a model of business excellence.

This programme is designed to integrate this type of business excellence models with the latest management systems covering quality, environmental, safety and human resources. Meanwhile, the programme also introduces the famous business breakthrough improvement technique - the Six Sigma and Lean framework. Participants who complete the programme will be able to customise integrated management systems for their organisation which embedded with the business excellence practices. Participants also learn the most effective six sigma and lean methodologies that lead to world-class performance for their organisation.

Programme Objective

Participants who complete this programme will be able to:
- identify gaps between their own organization and the business excellence models and suggest improvement initiatives that lead to world-class organization;
- establish an integrated management system that meets the quality, environmental, health and safety requirements;
- apply effective six sigma techniques for breakthrough improvement; and
- pass the professional examinations on Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Leader.

Participants are encouraged to read and learn the broad array of tools, techniques and the philosophies concerning the applications of the business excellence models, six sigma approach and performance management techniques to manufacturing and service industries.

Programme Structure

The Programme comprises of 8 modules with a total of 200 contact hours. Participants may normally complete the programme in 14 -15 months on part-time basis.

1. Principles and Models of Business Excellence (25 hours)
2. Principles and Techniques of Quality Management (25 hours)
3. Six Sigma Techniques (25 hours)
4. Strategies and Performance Management (25 hours)
5. Environmental, Quality, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (25 hours)
6. Supply Chain Quality Management (25 hours)
7. Service Quality and Management (25 hours)
8. Organisational & Human Resource Quality (25 hours)

The first part (100 hours) of the programme will cover the principles of Business Excellence, Six Sigma/Lean techniques and Quality Management. The remaining part (100 hours) of the programme will cover the other essential functional and management systems that are leading to business excellence.

Target Participants

This practical training programme is designed for executives, directors, managers, quality and operations professionals and officers whose roles and responsibilities are developing, implementing and managing effective management systems for improved organizational performance in service or manufacturing sectors.

Application Procedures

Applicant is required to submit the following documents:

1. A duly completed 'Enrolment Form for Award-bearing Programmes';
2. Photocopies of academic qualifications (i.e. transcript & certificate);
3. Photocopies of proof of working experience, if applicable (e.g. reference letter or employment letter);
4. Application Fee of $150 and 1st installment tuition fee of $15,600 (please refer to 'Part B- Methods of Payment' listed in the Enrollment Form);
5. Handling fee of $500 per module together with 'Application Form for Course Exemption or Advanced Standing' and supporting documents (i.e. full syllabus and transcripts) for exemption evaluation, if applicable. Application for Course Exemption should be applied before the commencement of the programme.

Admission will be on a first-come-first served basis for qualified applicants. All applicants will be notified in writing of their application results within 2 weeks after the application deadline.

Exemption Policy

Exemption may be granted for a module at the discretion of CUSCS and SSI if the applicant has successfully completed a course of equivalent content at a recognized tertiary institution or through a professional examination. Exemption application is required to be made when submitting the Enrolment Form and must be accompanied by supporting documents (i.e. full syllabus and transcripts).

Advanced Diploma Programme in Management for Business Excellence - maximum of 2 exemptions may be given.

Academy of Research and Management & Six Sigma Institute

Academy of Research and Management (ARM) is an affiliate of Hong Kong Quality Management Association (HKQMA), a non-profit-making professional body. It is engaged in extensive research and development in the areas of management and higher degree research materials, services and new learning tools to meet the continuous demand in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Six Sigma Institute (SSI) is an independent institute of Hong Kong Quality Management Association (HKQMA). Its primary objective is to accredit Six Sigma professionals with recognised knowledge and skills in this application science. SSI aims to work closely with consultants, training institutions and other professional bodies in promoting the theory and application of Six Sigma methodologies through training, examinations and registration of six sigma professionals.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)

This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. This course is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 4).
