A programme specially designed and accredited to deliver the benchmark standards for Legal Executives set by The Law Society of Hong Kong
Graduates of this programme are eligible to use the title 'Legal Executive' in Hong Kong provided that they have complied with the minimum education and/or work experience requirements stipulated by The Law Society of Hong Kong in its revised Benchmarks for Legal Executive Courses issued in December 2011.

CILEx is The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, a professional body representing 22,000 qualified and trainee Legal Executives which is recognised by the Law Society of England and Wales and the United Kingdom Ministry of Justice as a provider of one of the three core routes to becoming a qualified lawyer in England and Wales.

Programme Objectives
The Programme aims to provide an opportunity for students to learn about substantive Hong Kong law and practice, and to gain experience of skill-based tasks necessary for them to make a significant contribution to the workplace organisations they serve, and the wider community.
The specific objectives of the Programme are:
(a) to equip students with a general foundation of knowledge in selected areas of law and practice procedures;
(b) to alert students to the inter-relationship between legal principles and legal practices; and
(c) to equip students with the basic skills to provide support to solicitors in various types of professional legal practice, including court appearances wherever permitted.

Medium of Instruction
Teaching activities will be conducted in English. Learning materials are in English accompanied by Chinese translation of key terms. All assessments are in English.

Delivery Mode
This Programme will be delivered by face-to-face instruction. Seminars and small group sessions are arranged to facilitate students' learning. Face-to-face teaching activities will be supplemented by access to CILEx's Student Area. Students are required to devote approximately 5-10 hours for self-study each week using CILEx tailor-made manuals.

Classes will be held on Tuesday and Friday evenings and some Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:45 pm at Central Learning Centre (Bank of America Tower, 12 Harcourt Road, Central, Hong Kong). In addition, small group weekend sessions associated with each module will be held.
In Year 2 of the programme, classes are likely to be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Award of Professional Diploma
Your performance is monitored and assessed on a continuous basis through class participation, coursework and final examination.
The Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies will be jointly awarded by CILEx and CUSCS if you:
(a) have achieved an attendance rate of at least 70%; and
(b) have passed in the assessment of the 10 modules.

Progression to Further Studies
With a good pass, the Professional Diploma can also be used as an access to gain entry to the University of London External Programme Law Degree and to the part-time LL.B programmes at De Montfort University, Leicester, England; Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, England and Cardiff Law School, Wales.
The Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies course might also be studied before progressing to the Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE (MMU/HKSPACE).
Attaining the Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies may assist non-JUPAS applicants to LLB programmes of tertiary institutions in Hong Kong provided they are over 25 at the time of application.

This is an exempted course (Reference No.: 551882) governed by the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance, Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which this programme may lead.
| Admission Requirements | Applicants seeking admission to this Programme should meet the following minimum requirements: (a) Have obtained passes in 5 subjects in HKCEE including English Language at Grade D (Syllabus B) (or equivalent) or Level 3, or equivalent qualification; OR (b) Mature students at the age of 21 or above with at least 2 years' working experience. Remarks: (i) Interview may be required. (ii) Graduates of this programme seeking eligibility to use the title of 'Legal Executive' in Hong Kong MUST comply with the following requirements stipulated by The Law Society of Hong Kong in its revised Benchmarks for Legal Executive Courses issued in December 2011: - have obtained a pass in 5 subjects in HKCEE or a combination of results in 5 HKDSE subjects of Level 2 in NSS subjects, 'Attained' in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 ApL subjects) and Grade E in Other Language subjects OR have been in law-related employment in Hong Kong for 3 years; AND - have obtained a minimum grade of D in English language (Syllabus B) (or equivalent) in pre-2007 HKCEE, or a minimum Level 3 in English Language from 2007 HKCEE onwards, or a minimum overall score of 6 in IELTS, or a minimum Level 3 in English Language in HKDSE since 2012. |
