CUSCS Cash Unit Scheme (CATS)

To encourage students pursuing continuing studies, CUSCS has introduced an incentive scheme — "CUSCS Cash Unit Scheme (CATS)". Under this scheme, students enrolled on CUSCS courses will be granted cash units which they can use to partially pay their course fees of future CUSCS enrolments.

How to Earn Cash Units

Starting from 2008 Spring Term (i.e. 18 December, 2007) and until further notice, students who apply for CUSCS courses earn cash units on every dollar of course fee paid. Their cash units will be validated upon course confirmation. After validation, students can transform cash units into rebates on tuition fee, with every 100 cash units fully earned being equivalent to HK$ 1 rebate for the next or subsequent course enrolment*. The earning rates of cash unit for different categories of students are as follows:

How to Use Cash Units

On enrolment, the cash units to be earned will initially be shown on students' receipts. These cash units need to be validated or confirmed earned upon course commencement. Students can then opt for using the cash units for tuition fee rebates on the next course or accumulating the cash units for later use, provided the units are still valid (see expiry period below). The cash units earned from enroling on a certain course / programme can only be used for enrolment of another course / programme of a different course code.

Exception

The cash units cannot be rebated in the enrolment of *CEF reimbursable courses, full-time CUSCS programmes, corporate training programmes or programmes jointly offered by CUSCS in collaboration with local organizations, overseas and Mainland universities.

*As advised by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the Scheme (CATS) is regarded as offering a discount and as such is not permitted under the Continuing Education Fund rules. With effect from 1 August 2010, cash units cannot be used in all CEF reimbursable courses (including the whole programme or individual modules of a programme is/are listed as CEF reimbursable courses).

Expiry of Cash Units

Cash units are valid for 3 years, counting from the effective date of earning. The units are neither transferable nor refundable as cash value.

Adjustments to Cash Unit Balance

The calculation of cash unit is exclusively based on the record of CUSCS and subject to CUSCS's final decision in case of any dispute. CUSCS also reserves the right to interpret and revise the terms and conditions of the Scheme without prior notice.

CUSCS will make necessary cash unit adjustments in the event of refund or course cancellation. If in the unlikely event of students having a small negative cash unit balance, it may be carried forward to students’ future enrolment so that the outstanding amount can be settled in the next transaction. If the negative CATS balance is equivalent to an amount of HK$ 30 or more, students will be requested to settle by cheque.
