Advanced Development Academy
Learning is no longer a privilege of the young generation and age is not an obstacle to learning. In the era of lifelong learning, everyone should have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits and satisfaction that learning brings. The mission of the Advanced Development Academy is thus to provide quality programmes and courses to learners regardless of their age, educational background and occupation. Except for a few programmes with specific entry requirements, courses provided by the Advanced Development Academy are open to all.
About one-fourth of Hong Kong's population falls into the "third age" category; people who have retired from their careers but not from life. With high educational attainments, these people are looking for volunteer work or engaging in social activities and new learning opportunities, with the aim of realising their potential and searching for the meaning of life.
There is a common misconception that these third agers are only interested in leisure courses covering such areas as Cantonese opera songs or Tai Chi. Yet many retired professionals, through both their educational backgrounds and accumulated experience, have a wide range of interests. Hence, courses offered by the Advanced Development Academy are designed to engage people interested in the pursuit of learning for its own sake. Some may even be appealing to the young generation. The courses offered cover such areas as Traditional Chinese Medicine and health care, art, calligraphy, music, wealth management, ecotourism, culture, philosophy and even information technology. These courses may not be directly related to work, but they are very useful in maintaining a healthy and meaningful life. The Advanced Development Academy is committed to contributing to the community and enabling senior citizens to live healthy, happy and fruitful lives.
