The Queensland College of Art
The Queensland College of Art (QCA) was established in Brisbane in 1881. With its origins dating back more than 100 years, the QCA is Queensland's oldest and most distinguished art institution. The College joined Griffith University in January 1992 and in 2002 the College was relocated to Brisbane's South Bank where it joined Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium to create an internationally significant arts education forum. The combination of a significant and long history, the largest visual arts library in Queensland, a highly motivated professional staff and talented, enthusiastic students, has earned the College the undisputed reputation as Queensland's premier art school. Today, the QCA offers the widest range of visual art and design studies in Australia.

The Program
This degree program is offered by the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. It prepares students for diverse professional practice as designers in commerce and society. Courses provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills, along with an awareness of the social, environmental and industrial implications of design work. For program details, please visit here.

Award
The degree will be awarded by Griffith University and will have an equal status as those awarded by the university to resident graduates.

Program Structure
Students are required to complete the following 12 courses. Depending on the students' previous studies and subject to the consideration and at the discretion of the university, a maximum of 4 courses could be exempted.

Semester 1 (Sept – Jan)
1. Digital Graphic Design
2. Design for Motion Graphics
3. Modernism & Post-Modernism
4. Reading the Visual

Semester 2 (Jan – May)
5. Typographic Design 1
6. Visual Communication Design 1
7. Principles of Marketing
8. Typographic Design 2

Semester 3 (May – Sep)
9. Visual Communication Design 2
10. Design Issues
11. Visual Communication Design 3
12. Visual Communication Design 4

All course contents and textbooks conform to the requirements and standards set by Griffith University.

Academic Staff
All lectures are taught by the academic staff of Griffith University and supplemented with tutorials conducted by local tutors.


Medium of Instruction
All lectures and tutorials are conducted in English. All student assessments, both written and oral, are in English.


Duration
There are three semesters in each calendar year:
Semester 1 September - January
Semester 2 January - May
Semester 3 May - September

Students are required to study 4 courses in each semester. The Program can normally be completed within 12 months of full-time studies.


Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership of the Design Institute of Australia.


Financial Assistance
Students can apply for financial assistance through the Government's Non-means Tested Loan Scheme (NLS). Details of NLS can be obtained from the website of the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) at http://www.sfaa.gov.hk.


Application Procedures
The application form should be submitted with the following:
1. Non-refundable application fee HK$200 by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to 'The Chinese University of Hong Kong';
2. Certificates and transcripts of all relevant academic qualifications, e.g. AD, HD, HKAL, HKCEE, IELTS, etc;
3. Proof of recent English Language proficiency, if any;
4. Hong Kong identity card or relevant identification documents;
5. A Portfolio CD with all graphics compiled into a single PDF file and other non-graphic works in separate folders. (Portfolio guideline can be downloaded here.)

This is an exempted course governed by the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance, Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Reference No.: 411897). It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognize any qualification to which this course may lead.

Admission Requirements 1. Have completed either an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma Program in a related discipline;
2. Meet the Griffith University's specified English language requirements;
3. Pass a Portfolio review.
